Nero d’Avola

We drank some really great wine with our perfect pizzas last night. Started out with a Piemontese Barbera, but moved on to a Sicilian Nero d’Avola. Roberta Gangi, writing in Best of Sicily magazine, writes:

Nero d’Avola is one of those reds that you either love or hate. It’s not pretentious.

Though I had only a few sips, my friends really liked it a lot. Thanks again, Nick, for treating the table. Hope you don’t keep working so hard!

When Il Pizzaiolo opened up years ago, it was a BYOB. Wish it still were! This wine, which costs only about $16 retail, sells for more than double that at the restaurant. Pazienza!
