Pizza Pizza!

I have indeed been a lucky gal, getting to eat pizza with friends in three new places in the past few weeks. Believe it or not, I’ve been pleased with each of them, even when there was garlic! Seven years in this city and pizza worth eating has finally entered my life.

The first is a new place on Fairmount called Luigi’s Pizza Fresca. The owners are friendly Italians, from somewhere in the South, and own other places in Jersey.

La pizza caprese. One thumb down on the waxy plum tomatoes, one up for the fresh basil.

Rabe and sausage. Two thumbs up, despite the garlic.

The second place was Rustica, in Northern Liberties. Also owned by an Italian. Also had garlic.

La schiacciata. Two thumbs up. Way up. High.

The third was the infamous Tacconelli’s. Long argued to be the best pizza in Philly, this place is fifth generation Italian. They serve pizza and pizza only. You have to order the dough in the morning. It was surprisingly good. Worth the trouble. No garlic! 🙂

So, all my lamenting about my life’s lack of pizza dates has ended. Time to lament about my decimated 401K. Had I bought a house seven years ago, I’d be sitting on a profit AND having dinner parties. Pazienza!
