Eating green

Needed a post-Spin pasta tonight, but had little desire to work for it. Started out thinking I’d do a simple old favorite: penne rigate with zucchini-saffron, but changed course when I saw so many other other greens in my fridge. To the sauté  of sweet onion and zucchini, I added a handful of snow peas and some chopped parsley. Not green enough, I then added a few handfuls of wild arugula. While the color was right, the flavor still didn’t pop … at least until I added some goat cheese and parmigiano.  LOL.

Got to thinking: how can a puppet be so wise? And a message ring true 38 years later?

From “The Sesame Street Book and Record”. ‘Green’ is (c)1970 Jonico Music, Inc.

It’s not that easy being green;
Having to spend each day the color of the leaves.
When I think it could be nicer being red, or yellow or gold…
or something much more colorful like that.

It’s not easy being green.
It seems you blend in with so many other ord’nary things.
And people tend to pass you over ’cause you’re
not standing out like flashy sparkles in the water
or stars in the sky.

But green’s the color of Spring.
And green can be cool and friendly-like.
And green can be big like an ocean, or important like a mountain,
or tall like a tree.

When green is all there is to be
It could make you wonder why, but why wonder why?
Wonder, I am green and it’ll do fine, it’s beautiful!
And I think it’s what I want to be.

  1. making me wish i were green…and colors like that

thank you for the kermie moment

  2. you’re welcome. isn’t it funny how songs just pop into your mind sometimes? it could be a word in the song, or the melody, or the feeling it captured…. find the morning songs most curious; wondering if they’re remnants from subconscious dreaming? this morning i woke up with rush: fly by night away from here….
